With a little bit compression please

The longer the focal length, the greater the compression and thus viewer's focus.

How about quoting myself for a change? This has not happened yet as far as I know. Anyways:
Was nature photography suddenly no longer good enough?
First I tried my hand at micro photography because close wasn’t close enough anymore, then I switched to astro photography, and slipped into the realm of food photography even.
What should I say? I think it’s happening again.
After posting some darn nice nature images lately, I seem to be missing the excitement for the genre of photography yet again?
I can’t explain why else I suddenly got into landscapes now.

Yes, I know. To be precise, these are somehow also nature pictures. However, I am usually more the man for detail and not for wide angle shots.
Means I actually never run around with a wide angle lens mounted on the camera. I only do that when I am indoors cause I need space to move.
I might have a problem with too many things being put into a single image at once, when there’s much to see?
Please do not misunderstand me, there are many beautiful pictures of this kind and if the viewer can discover a lot, that’s a good thing, however, it may also bear the danger of quickly becoming overloaded or somewhat chaotic.
And you know I do not like chaos.
That’s why those landscape pictures I take on occasion usually include a certain amount of compression.
Lens compression accurs when taking pictures with a longer focal length: The foreground and the background are getting compressed and this makes subjects appear closer together than they actually are in real life. So the background, for instance, seems to be close to your motif even if there is quite a distance between.
Back to the shown picture: As you can see, it doesn’t take a wide angle lens to photograph landscapes even though this is assumed. The longer the focal length, the greater the compression and thus the focus on a particular part of the image.

Put it that way, there are no more excuses: No matter what cameras or lenses you have lying in your corners at home, get up and take beautiful landscape pictures!!
You don’t even need a camera nowadays, the smartphone is just what it needs!

BTW: The picture was taken at the Weißenstädter See. You already guessed: Where this picture comes from, there is more to marvel at.
