Tech took for granted

Complex technologies've their place in your pocket. You should think about this.

People out there! It’s time again for a looong article with lots of words. I do this because I know that you guys are so on it. Otherwise, that really would be too exhausting for me! Pweh!
For the very few of you who want to jump straight to the appropriate gallery, there is a shortcut.
Let’s not waste any time and start right away.

How much have we come to take the technology around us for granted?
Established and mature technology’s increasingly fading into the background of our perception, and is, at the same time, becoming an integral part of our live ever since.
Smart home, smart tv, smart watches, fitness trackers, Raspberry Pi magic mirrors. Everything’s so smart these days.
But that wasn’t always the case.
Let’s take the Internet as an example: Basic mechanisms that are still in use today were researched and developed in the 1980s, but the Internet didn’t exist in a commercial sense until the 1990s.
At that time, only high-income earners could afford it. Do the younger readers actually know that you were charged per minute back then? If that were still the case today, you wouldn’t hang out so much on social media. Roasted.
Anyway, it took quite a while to reach most households.
Sending mails was a huge sensation in the beginning, the first graphical web browser was available in the mid 90s. However, it could not be compared with today’s popular browsers. These didn’t exist until the turn of that millennium.
Of course, that was all several years ago … I can already hear you yawning, it’s all old news. But who knows today how the Internet actually works and what happens in the background? How servers are found on the Internet in the first place and connections’re established to provide you with sought-after content of the web.
I’m afraid complex technology is now taken for granted.

What hasn’t changed, though, is the fact that new technology has always excited people. Nothing generates such high demand, nothing arouses more interest at shopping.
Just dimensions and conditions have changed, let’s say, a little bit. Who would’ve thought that there would be a computer with more than 20 MB of hard disk space back then. Today that is 2-3 high-resolution JPEGs but not even a single RAW photo.
My father’s sister-in-law’s husband, God rest his soul, once said: Believe me or not but the day will come where we’ll be able to play music from tiny chips!!
He was laughed at.
That statement isn’t even that old and today nobody uses MP3 players anymore, today music will mainly be streamed. But not at home, no. On the go. With mobile devices.
We still can’t imagine what else will come in the future and at what speed.
In the end, we’ll probably end up making the same unbelievable forecasts.
There is also the question of whether we will be able to operate current technology in a few decades, even though we grew up with it. Personally, I’m not so sure here!

Just like the little things in life we should also value our great technologies more again.
Imagine life without the Internet for a moment, like a stubborn router problem. A wonderful imagination. Finally some peace and quiet. The flicker boxes are on break.
No kidding, this is where you realize how dependent we have become, in the meantime.

When you look at the following photograph and linked gallery, imagine the sheer endless amounts of data that are processed every day. That exact data runs over circuit boards, and is computed in milliseconds.
At first, that idea may sound like a professional data center with lot of servers, but it takes place in your pocket, in your smartphone. You should think about this.

You can reach the mentioned gallery via this path. There you can admire even more circuit boards from up close. You’re welcome.
Alright. You badass!! You really made it all the way down here?? Can I be honest? I would not have expected this! Attached you are gonna find a suitable reward.
